Adrien Brody and Antonio Banderas will be among the guests walking the red carpet at the Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF) later this month, organisers have said.The Hollywood stars will be among a “host of celebrities” heading to the event, which will take place across Abu Dhabi from Oct 10 to 19.
The final line-up for the second annual festival was confirmed last week, bringing together more than 100 films from around the globe.
Mr Brody, who won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Pianist, will attend a screening of his new crime comedy “The Brothers Bloom”. The movie, which will officially open the festival, will be screened at the Emirates Palace hotel at 8.30pm on Oct 10.Organisers also confirmed Antonio Banderas will appear at the festival with his wife the actress Melanie Griffith.
“This year we have an array of celebrities confirmed for our event. We are extremely proud to host them in Abu Dhabi” said Mohamed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, vice chairman of MEIFF and director general of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage.
“Despite the fact that we are only two years old, MEIFF has managed to establish an excellent reputation among similar events worldwide,” he added.Organisers said the festival will aim to bring the best of western and eastern filmmaking to the UAE's capital. Emirati stars will also be gracing the red carpet, including Samira Ahmed, Ahmed Al Jasmi, Bilal Abdallah, Dr. Habib Ghuloum and Ashjan.
Last month, MEIFF also announced that the actress Jane Fonda will be receiving the Black Pearl Award for her achievements in film over the last five decades.
